EdgeStar AP14009COM Server Cool – the Be(a)st of Portable Air Conditioners
It's an electronic world out their, and nowadays many companies have their own servers to preserve data and facilitate transfer of that data to where it needs to go. Those companies quickly learn about the heat those devices generate, and their need for a cool working environment to work better and last longer. We're not talking hip here, we're talking temperature.
Because of this need, most companies dedicate a small enclosed server room in which to house their precious devices, which hold all their business information and operating systems. Some buildings have a dedicated central type unit just for that room. But when a business occupies a building or portion of a building that doesn't have such a setup, a problem is immediately evident: How to keep that room cold and the rest comfortable?
 |
The answer is in room air conditioning. One economical and reliable way to do this is with a portable air conditioner. The fine folks at EdgeStar addressed just this issue when they designed the AP14009COM, a 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner designed specifically for use in server rooms. The Server Cool, as it's called, is built with heavier duty components than the residential line of portable air conditioners, so it's able to run constantly, day and night as needed for years of service. But they didn't stop there.

Realizing that many server rooms have no windows and may not be ideally setup for a portable air conditioner, they designed the Server Cool such that it can be used in either the efficient dual hose format, or the more convenient single hose format. Like all portable air conditioners, it comes with a window vent kit included, but they also offer a ceiling vent kit which fits easily into a standard 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 ceiling tile grid. It can also be vented through the wall using a dryer vent.
Because of its intended use, this is a cool only unit. An included remote control means easy adjustment even if the unit isn't easily accessed in a server room, which are often crowded with racks and computer equipment.
The AP14009COM costs a few hundred more than EdgeStar's awesome Extreme Cool residential line, but has nevertheless been one of the best sellers at PortableHomeAir. It is rated for rooms up to 525 square feet. Since most server rooms are much smaller, it is the residential application where this number is more important.
Don't be deterred by the 'COM' designation, it is an excellent choice for residential use in rooms that are just always hot due to high heat load, requiring constant conditioning like a server room does. EdgeStar advertises it as their most powerful portable air conditioner. Even though they have other 14,000 BTU units, the Server Cool's upgraded components lead to that statement. If you have a business server room or just a difficult cooling problem in your home, check out the Server Cool at www.portablehomeair.com. You'll be glad you did, and we'll ship it to you for free!
